Hounsfield Wind Farm (Galloo Island) project (269 MW, hybrid offshore/onshore)

Developer: Upstate NY Power Corp

Location: Galloo Island in Lake Ontario

Status: NYS DEC final environmental scoping document has been completed. Upstate NY Power Corp. will soon apply for a state certificate for a greatly revised transmission line.

Location: Lake Erie

Status: Issued an RFQ for development of a 20 MW offshore wind demo project in Lake Erie near downtown Cleveland + feasibility study of establishing an R&D center for utility scale wind technology. As recommended in Feb 8, 2007 report Building a New Energy Future. Juwi International conducting project feasibility study for offshore wind test project. $1,041,454 contract approved with JW Great Lakes Wind llc. Study to be completed in 2009. Status: Avian and aquatic studies are underway. 36 years of wind data is being updated with LiDAR and MetMast. 3rd detailed wind analysis completed and draft turbine layout optimization completed. Status: seeking Public Service Commission approval to spend $3 million to study the feasibility of putting turbines in Lake Michigan
